  • 2016-10-12:  File purge warning, all HCC resources
    Category:  General Announcement

This notice affects users with data on the /work filesystem of all HCC resources (Crane, Sandhills and Tusker). Files not accessed for over 6 months will be removed this week. This will now be enforced as an ongoing policy. This was originally announced for all HCC resources September 29, and no more warnings will be sent unless the policy or situation changes. These files will not be recoverable. All of /work remains subject to further file removal if conditions so demand (i.e. the system is overrun).

These file purges keep the /work filesystem available and performing at a more reliable and higher level. Some initial purge statistics for HCC resources are as follows:

Crane: Total files: 36,306,639 Total amount: 274TB Oldest file removed was last accessed 1033 days ago.
Sandhills: Total files: 14,192,087 Total amount: 62TB Oldest file removed was last accessed 1449 days ago.
Tusker: Total files: 18,221,530 Total amount: 81TB Oldest file removed last last accessed at least 420 days ago.

Long term storage is available for $60/TB/year on Attic (http://hcc.unl.edu/attic).

HCC now purges (i.e. removes) files from /work that are over 6 months old. You may run

    hcc-purge

to see which files (if any) are old enough to be removed at the next purging at any time. Purges will be performed each week on an ongoing basis moving forward. Scans for files to purge will be done twice a week. Please see

    https://hcc-docs.unl.edu/display/HCCDOC/Handling+Data

    for further details.

  • 2016-10-10:  HCC Anvil web interface maintenance: Tue, Oct 11 at 10am
    Category:  Maintenance

We have a scheduled maintenance for the HCC Anvil web interface for Tuesday, October 11 starting at 10am.

Access to the anvil-beta.unl.edu web interface, including creation, deletion, and web console access to VMs, will be unavailable until the maintenance is complete. Running virtual machines will not be affected.

During this maintenance, we will be moving the web service to new hardware. We anticipate the move will be completed by the end of the day. We will send a followup notice when work is complete.
