HCC Kickstart 2024

HCC Kickstart is a series of lessons that will give new users a hands-on introduction to accessing and using the high performance computing (HPC) resources provided by the Holland Computing Center (HCC). These lessons are tailored for beginners and require no previous experience.

When:
September 4th, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm @ UNLincoln
September 12th, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm @ UNOmaha

Cost: FREE!!!

These sessions will be delivered in-person. If you would like to attend the HCC Kickstart at either location, but are unable to attend in-person, please contact hcc-support@unl.edu.

Lights snacks and beverages will be provided in both locations. Lunch is NOT provided.

Attendees will need a computer capable of an SSH connection as this workshop will feature plenty of hands-on practice.

Hear about what services HCC offers and what new exciting things are in the works.

Introduction to Navgating and Files in Linux

An introduction of the Linux shell including how to navigate the file system and working with text files in a command line environment, such as that found on HCC cluster Swan.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Introduction to Data Storage and Transfer on HCC

Learn about the different storage systems HCC offers and how to transfer data to and from HCC systems including HCC's newest storage, NRDStor.

Using Software on HCC Resources

Learn how to use software on HCC clusters including preinstalled software.

3:10 pm - 3:40 pm

Running and Submitting Jobs on HCC

Learn the basics of submitting workflows and running applications using HCC resources.

3:40 pm - 4:00 pm

Introduction to Good Practices in HPC

Learn about a variety of good practices when using shared HPC resources to help speed up workflows and increase the efficiency of HPC resources.

4:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Open Questions

Time available for questions about today's events.
