  • 2014-08-18:  Tusker /work usage
    Category:  General Announcement

    Dear users,
Once again, we have began filling up the /work filesystem to near its capacity. If you would please go through and start transferring off and deleting files that you need, or deleting files which are no longer needed, it would be very helpful to us.

Please remember that the /work filesystem is meant to be used as temporary storage. It is not backed up, and we reserve the right to delete files should it ever become necessary. If you need a more permanent, and backed up archived storage, we are working on this solution to have it available to our users very soon. In the mean time, if you could help us out by cleaning out your /work directories, it would be very helpful to us so that we don’t need to start deleting files to clear off the storage ourselves.

    Thank you,

  • 2014-08-07:  Tusker maintenance complete, system is open.
    Category:  Maintenance

Tusker is up as of 5:40pm 8/7/14. Maintenance is complete. The module software on Tusker was changed to Lmod during the downtime. Lmod has been in use on Crane since it entered service and offers several advantages. By and large submit scripts will not require any changes. Please contact hcc-support@unl.edu if you encounter any issues.

The module software on Tusker was changed to Lmod
    (https://www.tacc.utexas.edu/tacc-projects/lmod) during the downtime.
Lmod has been in use on Crane since it entered service and offers several
advantages over the previous software. This change was to provide a
uniform environment between the two clusters. By and large submit scripts
will not require any changes. There are a few minor differences to be
aware of. The modules Lmod displays with the module available command depend on what compiler or MPI module is currently loaded. As a result,
some modules that were previously shown with the available command may not
be displayed by default with lmod. Those modules are still present. Lmod
provides a spider command to search all modules and display the required
prerequisite(s). If you do not see a module that was previously present,
use the spider command to display the particular prerequisites. For
example, module spider hdf5/1.8 . A complete listing of the software installed on Tusker is also available on the HCC website at
https://hcc-docs.unl.edu/x/LQF9. If you encounter any module-related
errors with previously working jobs, please contact hcc-support@unl.edu
and we will help you fix the issue as soon as possible.

  • 2014-07-29:  Planned Crane Downtime: August 5th, 2014
    Category:  Maintenance

This outage for software maintenance affects Crane only.

Jobs which cannot complete before August 5th at 10:00am will be held in queue until the maintenance is complete. We anticipate this work will be finished by 6:00pm the same day.

To minimize the impact to running jobs we are declaring a downtime for Crane to complete this work. We will use this maintenance window to update various software components across the cluster. The Crane login node will also be updated and will require users to log off. Users will be denied access to the Crane login node until the maintenance is completed.
